Etiquette & Expectations

Proper classroom etiquette and attire is essential to the education and training of a dancer. The following rules are universal and are followed by all major dance programs and professional companies. We ask that you apply them at The Conservatory of Movement as well.

Students are not permitted to swing or lean on the barres or mirrors, before or after class time.
Be appreciative of corrections and apply them. Students will progress only as well as they can take corrections.
Be kind to your classmates. A positive attitude and tone must be kept at all times in the studio and dressing room. Displays of temper and rudeness are unacceptable. Your teacher reserves the right to ask you to leave if negative behavior is observed.
If a student needs to leave early, he/she must ask the teacher’s permission before class begins. Please leave discreetly so as not to disrupt class. Please ask before leaving the room for any reason.
Gum chewing, eating or drinking is not allowed in the studios, and use the trash can! Water is allowed.
Do not wear your dance shoes outside the studio and do not wear street shoes inside the studio, this preserves the life of your dancewear and the life of our dance floors.
Please label shoes and other personal items and do not bring valuables to the studio. Lost and Found items will be donated to charity once a month.

Students are asked to change quickly and leave the dressing room area. No food or drinks are permitted in dressing rooms or dance studio except water.
Students must be in the proper attire to participate in class. Hair should be in a bun, or at least pulled away from face. No jewelry (except for small earrings) or watches are to be worn in class.
The appropriate dance shoes must be worn in class. Ballet and Jazz can not be executed properly in bare feet or tights. Elastic is to be sewn on all ballet shoes and drawstrings tucked in.
Arrive early to prepare yourself appropriately for class. If late, wait for the exercise in progress to be over before entering the studio. Dancers who are not warmed-up properly and sufficiently may risk injury, so students arriving late may be asked to observe instead of participate.
Students are required to be respectful to each other, their instructors and themselves. Students must be quiet, attentive and not disrupt the classroom setting. Eyes and attention must always be on the teacher. Talking, leaning on the barres, yawning or leaving class before it is over is not acceptable.

For Parents:

Regular (consistent) attendance is crucial to the dance students' training. Other commitments that interfere with class time should be avoided. If you know of a prior engagement or business, please notify the school that your child will not be in school. It is students and parents responsibility to notify the school of illness and unforeseen issue(s) that will prohibit your child from attending their scheduled class for whatever the reason. Make-up classes are available at your convenience. Please ask your instructor for appropriate make-up class times.
Parents wishing to discuss their child's progress with the teacher should leave a message on the studio phone and the teacher will return the call in a timely fashion. It is very difficult for the teachers to maintain their tight class schedules if they are answering parents’ questions in between classes. We appreciate your understanding on this matter.
Please remember that the lobby is a place of business. In consideration of others please try to keep young children quiet and occupied while class is in progress. Thank you.

Ballet shoes should be leather, full-soled only, for Grades Pre-Primary through 5.
Instructor’s approval is necessary for students to begin demi-pointe or pointe work.

Pre-School

Tuition & Withdrawal Policy

- Tuition will be billed monthly and is due the 1st of the month. Payments received after the 10th of the month incur an automatic $15 late fee.

- Students are registering for the full school term (Aug - June), not for individual classes. Full tuition is due for the months of December and June. Tuitions are flat monthly rates except for the month of August which is equal to one-half of monthly tuition and due at the first dance class.

- If you are NOT enrolled in Auto-Pay: December tuition is billed November 1 and due by November 10th. June tuition is billed May 1 and due by May 10th.

- Missed classes cannot be deducted from the regular monthly tuition fee. No tuition is deducted for snow days or other cancellations. Classes may be made up at your convenience. Please ask any staff member for suitable times and days.

- The following fees must be paid by their due dates in order to participate in our annual Spring Recital: recital fee, costume fees. If you are enrolled in Auto-Pay, fees will automatically be charged on the 1st of the month.

- The following fees must be paid by their due dates in order to participate in RAD/Rambert exams (if applicable): exam fees, coaching fees. If you are enrolled in Auto-Pay, fees will automatically be charged on the 1st of the month.

- If a student wishes to discontinue classes, written notice must be given to the studio office one month prior to withdrawal. If one month's notice is not received, a withdrawal fee in the amount of one month's tuition is required.
